Mirkovic repeats as Big Ten Freshman of the Week following wins over TTU, Colgate

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - Illinois Men's Basketball forward David Mirkovic repeated as the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Illinois Athletics stated that Mirkovic has earned the award in each of the first two weeks to kick off the season.

In wins over Texas Tech and Colgate, Mirkovic averaged a double-double of 19 points and 12.5 rebounds, including notching the first 20-point-20-rebound game by an Illini player in 53 years in the 84-65 win over Colgate.

Mirkovic set career highs in points (27) and rebounds (21) in the win, as his 21 rebounds set the program's freshman single-game record, per the Athletics Department.

The #8 Fighting Illini return to action against #11 Alabama at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the United Center in Chicago.
