MONTICELLO, Ill. (WAND) - It is a simple mantra every postseason. Survive and advance.

The Monticello Sages got a first hand look at that mantra last Saturday in the Quarterfinals.

Rounds one and two came easy for Monticello, beating both DuQuoin and Williamsville by nearly 30 points.

But the Sages saw a 14-point lead evaporate as Benton forced OT and had a chance to win the game with a Two-point conversion.

But the Sages defense came up big and Monticello escaped with a 27-26 win.

"I think our kids were resilient, we were on our heels," said head coach Cully Welter. "We hung in there and the bottom line at this point is just survive."

Monticello will host Illini Prairie rival Unity on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Rockets won the previous meeting in week 9. But there will be a lot more in the line this week as the winner will advance to the State Title Game.
