DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - For some, tonight will mark the first freeze of the season. A hard freeze is when the temperature falls below 28 degrees for three or more consecutive hours. When temperatures are below 32, but above 28 degrees for three or more consecutive hours, it is considered a light freeze.
WAND weather is expecting a widespread frost in the larger towns, but a general light freeze for most countryside locales. A couple spots can pick up a hard freeze, but likely the exception to the rule.
That brings us to whether or not you have a garage or carport. If you do not, and you are on your way out the door before 8 a.m. Friday, plan on extra time to scrape the windshield.
If stargazing and shooting stars are your thing, there is the yearly Orionid meteor shower. The peak of the Orionids passed earlier this week, but there are still about 10 per hour expected just after midnight. Why not brave the cold and check it out!?
Stay warm, and stay weather-aware.
