We are tracking some light rain Sunday afternoon in our southern communities.
For the most part, this will bring you a couple tenths of an inch of rain. While anything is helpful in this drought, today's rain won't be enough to really tip the scales.
There is a chance we could pick up more rain by the middle of this week, though, that could help with our dry conditions. Model guidance has been steadily increasing how much moisture will be available in the low pressure center coming through central Illinois by the middle of this week. Right now around one inch of rain for most of our communities seems like a good possibility.
That rain will start Tuesday afternoon as light showers before spreading across more of our communities overnight.
This will be a mostly light-to-moderate rain event with no terribly heavy rain expected. That lighter rain over several hours is exactly what the dry ground needs.
The rain should wrap up by Wedneday afternoon, but this weather system also brings a slight drop in temperature and some windy conditions. Wednesday we could see wind gusts over 30 mph.
Check back in for more specific updates on timing and amounts in the coming days as the low pressure center gets closer to us and we have a better understanding of how it is evolving.
