DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - As the leaves fall and temperatures dip, November offers a spectacular backdrop for night sky enthusiasts. In November, skywatchers can look forward to a variety of celestial events that make this month a prime time for stargazing.

November’s night sky showcases some of the most iconic constellations. Look for Orion, the clear winter constellation that dominates the early evening sky with its bright stars and distinctive belt. While nearing an end to the Orionid meteor shower, it can still be viewed until the 12th.

Next up is the slow and fireball-prone Taurid meteor shower that will peak in the late evenings of Nov. 8 to 9. Not to be underdone is the annual Leonid meteor shower, peaking on the 18th. This shower can produce up to 15 meteors per hour under dark skies. With the moon in a favorable phase, the darkness will enhance your chances of catching a shooting star streaking across the sky.

Speaking of the moon, this month's full moon is the second of three consecutive supermoons.  This full Beaver moon will occur on Wednesday, Nov. 5.

Happy viewing!
