The Minnesota Vikings visit the Chicago Bears in their season opener on Monday night with quarterback J.J. McCarthy making his first NFL start. His debut with the Vikings was delayed after a knee injury suffered in the first preseason game of his rookie year. Bears quarterback Caleb Williams will also be in the spotlight after a choppy first season. Williams was the first overall pick in the 2024 draft. McCarthy was 10th. The game also marks the first for the Bears under new head coach Ben Johnson. He spent the past three seasons as defensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions.

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Quarterback Caleb Williams feels prepared for a second year under Ben Johnson’s coaching with the Chicago Bears. The team won the NFC North last year for the first time since 2018, but Williams says there’s more work to do. He’s excited to return for offseason conditioning and to see new and familiar faces. Some changes include the retirement of center Drew Dalman and the trade of wide receiver DJ Moore. Williams believes his experience in Johnson’s offense will ease the transition with new center Garrett Bradbury.
