SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — The Animal Protective League of Springfield and Sangamon County (APL) is promoting its annual "Have a Heart" fundraising campaign for the month of February.
APL is a not-for-profit dedicated to helping sick, injured and abandoned homeless animals.
From February 1 through February 28, people are encouraged to buy "hearts" at participating local businesses. Small pink hearts will be available for $1, and larger red hearts will be available for $5.
After buying a heart, APL said people can write their name, their pet's name, or messages of love and encouragement on the hearts.
All proceeds from the campaign will directly benefit APL, helping give medical care and shelter to animals in need.
Participating businesses can be found on APL's website and social media throughout February.
