CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - The Canvas cyberattack impacted more than 8,000 institutions, including the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Among the information involved was user data including names, email addresses, student ID numbers and messages. Many students had issues accessing their coursework.
For students like Sabrina Schwartz, it adds extra stress to finals season.Â
"I was trying to get on Canvas, and I was hoping to look through the notes and the videos because my teacher has all the lectures on there, and then all of a sudden it was down," she said. "I went in there and I was trying to print off anything that might help me study for this huge test that I have because my grade is on the line."
Richland Community College is aware of the recent cybersecurity incident involving the Canvas platform. At this time, the College’s systems remain secure, fully operational, and unaffected by this incident.
Richland’s use of Canvas is limited to academic coursework. The College does not store final grades, financial information, or sensitive personal information within the platform.
We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as needed.
