MONTICELLO, Ill. (WAND) — Monticello is the place to be this Saturday for the Horizon Hobby RC Fest.

The event returns to Eli Field, where people can get hands-on with RC vehicles and aircraft.

"RC Fest has been going on since 2017," said Director of Marketing and Events Steve Petrotto. "We had a couple of years off here and there for various reasons, but we're back at it, and it's been a great event. We've had over 6,000 people show up before."

The event gives families and kids a chance to experience something you cannot do just anywhere. Petrotto said this event offers more than just a hands-on experience.

"It allows people to get their hands on and enjoy a recreational sport that not a lot of people get to do all the time," Petrotto said. "These aren't toys; these are hobby-grade products."

The event includes a full day of activities, with an on-site hobby store, food, vendors and plenty of opportunities to fly, drive and explore.

Petrotto said he loves being involved in the event, and attendees can expect several new additions this year.

"I love getting out there and flying," Petrotto said. "I'm on the microphone quite a bit at the event, so I get to have fun and talk with all the pilots during the jet demonstrations. We have some amazing pilots; we even flew someone in from Germany to do some demonstrations."

Petrotto said he cannot wait to see families come out and enjoy some truly unique activities.

"Bring the whole family — come out and get your hands on some really cool RC stuff," Petrotto said. "I'm really excited to see you there."

Parking is $10 per vehicle, and every paid parking pass includes a $15 coupon redeemable at the on-site hobby store.
