CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — The Salvation Army of Champaign County will host an upcoming canned food drive to address the growing need for food access in the area.

The drive will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, July 14, at the Salvation Army Red Shield Center in Champaign.

Canned food items needed include meat, fruit, beans, vegetables and other shelf-stable food supplies.

The Salvation Army said in a press release that as many as 500 people have visited the food pantry every day in recent weeks during the rise of food insecurity over the summer.
