SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - The Springfield Area Arts Council announced the return of Shakespeare in the Park.Â
Shakespeare in the Park will be held on Friday, July 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Enos Park, 1000 N. 7th St. in Springfield.Â
This is the third year for the event. This year, it will showcase Illinois playwright Kevin Purcell's one-act play, "Lincoln and Shakespeare," featuring Carbondale actor Kim Curlee.Â
Purcell said, "The focus of the play is this question: Did Lincoln's love of Shakespeare influence his writing and actions?" The play examines how Shakespeare may have shaped Lincoln's character, thinking, and leadership.Â
The production was performed at the Hoogland Center for the Arts earlier this year.Â
There will be a question-and-answer session following the performance.Â
Admission is free and open to the public. There is a suggested donation of $25 to help support future Shakespeare in the Park performances and other free arts programs offered by the Arts Council. Attendees are encouraged to bring law chairs or blankets.Â
