CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — Champaign is introducing a new event series called Sound Bite Sunday for all to enjoy. From live music to local food, the event is meant to give families a place to enjoy their community.
On Sunday, the event included activities to celebrate Mother's Day.
"Besides it being Mother's Day, it is a beautiful day. The sun is out and shining so bright. I'm proud of my community for offering a space just like this, for people to have these opportunities," event host Sheena Huntt said.
Each Sunday, the event will provide games, trivia, and interactive activities, followed by live music from local talent. Huntt said it is also a boost for local small businesses.
"The hope is that more people will come out and experience downtown Champaign. They'll see all of the wonderful restaurants and local shops that we have here in our community," said Huntt.
Beyond being an emcee — Huntt is also a mother. Her daughter, Layla, was able to see her mom in action for the first time.
"The biggest thing my mother has taught me is to be resilient. To never give up. There's a lot of times where, especially when it comes to school, I'm like, I feel like a kid. She always tells me to push another day," Layla said.
For the next few weeks—there will be a different live band performing giving folks the opportunity to see local talent. Layla hopes after this event—people see all that Champaign has to offer.
"Invite your friends and family to really get that community feel, because there are a lot of hidden gems," Layla said.
Organizers will host a family game show on May 31 where anyone is welcome to come compete in a family-friendly environment. You can learn more about Sound Bites here.
