SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - The Springfield YMCA is collecting donations of laundry detergent for the Central Illinois Foodbank.
The collection will run now through December 1 at both the Downtown YMCA, 601 North 4th St and Kerasotes YMCA, 4450 West Iles Ave in Springfield.
“Many people don't realize that basic necessities like laundry detergent are not always readily available to those in need. For families and individuals experiencing financial difficulties, purchasing laundry detergent can be an expense that is simply out of reach. This is where food banks and shelters play a crucial role in providing essential items to those who are struggling. By offering laundry detergent, these organizations are helping individuals maintain their personal hygiene and dignity, as well as reducing the spread of illness and disease”, said Angie Sowle, Springfield YMCA CEO. “It is important to recognize that access to clean clothes is a basic need that everyone deserves, that’s why we are happy to partner with Central Illinois Foodbank to collect donations of laundry detergent at both Ys that will be distributed by the foodbank”, she said.
Members of the YMCA, the community, and local organizations are encouraged to bring in any type of laundry to either YMCA lobby drop box now through Thursday, December 1.
