SHELBY COUNTY, Ill. (WAND) — Two young teens are dead, and another was airlifted to the hospital following a crash between a UTV and a grain hauler truck in Shelby County.

Illinois State Police confirmed to WAND News that all of the teens were 14-year-old girls. They also confirmed one of those teens was driving the UTV.

ISP was called to 1200 N 3150E around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Troopers said a 2022 Polaris UTV was traveling south on County Road 3150E. A 2006 International Truck Tractor Grain Hauler was traveling east on County Road 1200N.

Troopers said the UTV disobeyed the stop sign on CR3150E at the intersection with CR1200N, entered the intersection, and hit the front of grain hauler.

One person from the UTV was pronounced dead on the scene. A second person from the UTV was rushed to the hospital but pronounced dead there.

The third person from the UTV was airlifted to Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of grain hauler, a 40-year-old man from Gays, was uninjured.

Stewardson-Strasburg CUSD 5A confirmed on Facebook that the crash did involve three incoming freshman students.
