Crash wood and main

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — A man is in the hospital after a two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon that shut down a downtown Decatur intersection.

The crash happened just before 1 p.m. at the intersection of East Wood Street and South Main Street, near the Macon County Office Building.

The Decatur Police Department told WAND News that a 72-year-old Decatur man was driving through the intersection on Wood Street, when a 21-year-old Decatur woman driving down Main Street hit the man's car.

Police said they are still working to determine who had the right of way.

The 72-year-old man was taken to the hospital. The police department said when he arrived at the hospital, doctors advised that he has a "life-threatening medical condition."

Further investigation is needed to determine whether it was a result of the accident or a health condition, according to police.

The intersection is closed off, with traffic being rerouted to neighboring streets. Police did not have an exact time frame for when it will be reopened, but said they hope to have the street cleared within the "next few hours."
