SIGEL, Ill. (WAND) -- Four people died after a train hit a car early Sunday morning in rural Shelby County.

Illinois State Police said it happened just before 4:30 a.m. at the railroad crossing near County Road 400 North and U.S. Route 45. 

The train did not derail due to the crash. 

The road was closed for several hours during the investigation. 

It reopened just after 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

The crash is under investigation.
