RANTOUL, Ill. (WAND) - Every law enforcement agency in Champaign County was called out after a massive fight broke out at Lincoln's ChalleNGe Academy in Rantoul Wednesday.

Rantoul police told WAND News between 70-80 cadets at the academy were involved in a brawl around 6 p.m.

Between 30-40 officers from all over Champaign County responded to break up the fight.

Three cadets were taken to the hospital. Two were released. One was kept overnight for observation, Rantoul police said.

Five cadets were arrested. Three of those were juveniles. Two were 18 and taken to the Champaign County Jail. Anthony Williams and Michael McKay were charged with mob action and aggravated battery. McKay was also charged with damaging a squad car.

No officers or staff were injured.

Rantoul police told WAND News the fight stemmed from ongoing issues between two groups of cadets. They said this is not the first time they have responded to a large fight at the academy, but it has been many years since they've seen a fight of this magnitude there.

Rantoul police will be conducting additional patrols in the area Thursday.

The Illinois National Guard told WAND News any cadets arrested and charged in relation to the fight will be dismissed from the Lincoln's ChalleNGe program.

"The program's priority right now is ensuring the safety of the cadets, and communicating with their parents and guardians," they said in a statement.
