A Champaign woman involved in a fatal drunk driving crash has been sentenced to 14 years behind bars.
A Champaign County judge said Elizabeth Drewes is "a belligerent, mean-spirited and manipulative drunk", who passed up numerous chances to get help for her alcoholism. The judge acknowledged that this was a probationable offense, but said it's necessary to prevent Drewes and others from driving drunk.
The 54-year-old was sentenced to the maximum term allowed for the December crash on I-74 that killed 24-year-old Brittany Babb. Three other people were seriously hurt as Drewes drove the wrong way on the interstate.
