DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — A 32-year-old Oreana man was charged with a felony after police say he stabbed a man in May.
Just before 5 p.m. on May 29, Decatur Police Department officers responded to the 1000 block of North Main Street after reports of a stabbing.
When they arrived, they found Matthew R. Huff, who had been stabbed.Â
A witness told police she saw Dustin W R Robinson-Beaty and another man yelling at someone for dumpster diving.Â
In a sworn statement, police said Huff tried to break up the argument, and Robinson-Beaty swung at him. Huff fought back, punching him in the face.
According to police, Huff attempted to run away, but was chased by Robinson-Beaty, who stabbed him in the arm with a pocket knife. Huff claimed Robinson-Beaty smashed his phone before running away with the other man.
Huff told police he believed the two men were drunk or on drugs.
Robinson-Beaty was charged with aggravated battery/use of a deadly weapon and criminal damage to property less than $500.
His first appearance in court was on Monday. He did not enter a plea.
