DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) - A Vermilion County man was sentenced to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.
According to the Vermilion County State's Attorney's Office, Marquil Brown, formerly of Danville, pleaded guilty to the charge on March 3.
He will serve one year of mandatory supervised release following his time in the IDOC.Â
Danville police responded to a home near East Main Street on Nov. 14, 2025, after a person had entered a home with a firearm.
Witnesses told police that Brown wandered into the home when they were moving items inside.Â
They added that Brown "appeared frantic" as he stated the police were after him.
While inside, Brown was said to have changed his clothes several times and had a small handgun on him.Â
After he left, police were called, and the DPD Emergency Response Unit responded to search the home.
During the search, Danville police found a handgun that matched Brown's hidden inside a Monopoly box.
Brown later denied owning the gun, as he was previously convicted of a felony, making it illegal for him to own a firearm.Â
