DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) —  The state's High-Speed Rail Commission is looking at using Decatur as a feeder into the high-speed rail system between Chicago and St. Louis. Other cities which could be feeder cities include Rockford, Moline and Peoria.

A survey is currently posted on the city of Decatur website. It seeks the opinions of Decatur residents. The study results can then be used for a statewide feasibility study.

It does not necessarily mean Decatur would see the return of Amtrak service which ended in the 1980s. Buses might be used to transport riders to stations in cities like Springfield where a high-speed rail line is currently under construction.

The survey on the city of Decatur website is currently active. It will close on May 11, 2025.
