DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - The Decatur Police Department has appointed Erik Ethell as the new Deputy Chief of Police. 

Ethell has been with the department for 17 years, previously serving as a Lieutenant. He will take on the role of Deputy Chief of Administrative Operations, succeeding Brad Allen, who has been appointed as Police Chief.

"I am excited to announce the appointment of Lt. Erik Ethell to the position of Deputy Chief," said incoming Chief Brad Allen. "Lt. Ethell has a broad range of experience within the department and will be a tremendous asset to the administrative team at DPD. I am very happy for Lt. Ethell and this advancement in his career."

Ethell began his career with DPD in May 2008, was named a detective in 2013, promoted to Sergeant in 2018, and most recently served as Lieutenant since 2022. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and holds a Master's degree. 

Ethell's first day as Deputy Chief of Police will be May 9, 2025.
