DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - A chinchilla from the Scovill Zoo visited the WAND news studio on May 6.
Dusty is a domesticated species of chinchilla, so she is larger than those in the wild.Â
Chinchillas have eight hairs out of each follicle, compared to one hair out of each follicle for humans. They do not bathe in water. They bathe in dust to help absorb oils from their coat.Â
The Scovill Zoo is open from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
