CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - Parkland College Board of Trustees approved the phased closure of the Child Development Center during a special board meeting Tuesday.

The board's action follows an administrative recommendation to close the center due to ongoing operational challenges, staffing shortages and budget deficits.

The college stressed that the closure will not impact its early childhood education program. 

Parkland added that it will continue supporting families as they look for childcare options in the community. 

The center will end operations by June 30.
