Expect traffic delays on Interstate 72/57 Interchange starting Sept. 9

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, more construction work will begin on September 9 at the Interstate 72/57 interchange.

Department officials say the work will involve building crossover pavement, which will be used in reconstructing a bridge over I-57.

This work will close the left lane in both directions on I-72. Officials add that the bridge work is expected to begin in 2025 and be completed in the fall of 2026.

IDOT urges drivers to allow extra time for trips through this area and, if feasible, use alternate routes to their destinations. Drivers should also pay close attention to changed conditions and work zone signs, obey the posted speed limits, not use any mobile devices, and be alert for construction workers and equipment.
