DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — Clothing is running short at Dove, Inc. in Decatur, an organization that helps families dealing with social injustice.

The agency serves families throughout central Illinois.

"We cover a lot of different things in the community like domestic violence, homelessness and financial assistance," said Senior Volunteer Melissa Girardi. "We also run a clothing center that serves kids up to age 18 in Macon County."

But recently, serving the community has become a bit more difficult for the organization. Girardi said this time of year explains the sudden high demand for clothes.

"With kids going back to school, it's been really difficult for families to decide between new clothes for their kids or groceries and bills," Girardi said. "Over the last year or two, we've seen an increase, probably more so in the last few months."

The organization relies entirely on community donations to give back to families in need, so support plays a huge role in the program's success.

Since the organization posted about the shortage on Facebook, the community has stepped up in a big way.

"They always want to help," Girardi said. "We put the ask out, and they've been great about it. We've seen an increase in clothing coming in, and we hope to continue seeing that."

Girardi said there is more than one way the community can help the organization give back.

"Donations are taken from 1-3:30 on Mondays and Wednesdays at Central Christian Church in Decatur," Girardi said. "Financial donations are always welcome as well."
