SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - A new exhibit at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum will feature a collection of artifacts and photographs commemorating the museum's construction and opening.

Visitors will see an early model of the museum, a shovel from the groundbreaking ceremony, a ticket to the grand opening and a poster from the museum's first exhibit, "Blood on the Moon."

Some items will be from ALPLM's permanent collection, and others will be on loan from staff members who have worked at the facility since its opening.

Among those items are commemorative brooms and a hard hat from a tour of the museum's early construction.

The exhibit will run for six months outside the museum's "Ghosts of the Library" attraction and will be included with regular admission.

“I hope visitors who see this exhibit will take a moment to reflect on what the library and museum have accomplished over the past 20 years, both as a guardian for historic treasures and as a place for visitors to make special memories,” said ALPLM Executive Director Christina Shutt in an Aug. 4 press release.

The museum has welcomed around six million visitors since opening in April 2005.
