SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - An ultra-rare 21-star American flag will go on display at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum ahead of Independence Day.
An ALPLM historian will explain the flag's significance and design at 11 a.m. Thursday at the museum.
The ALPLM said in a press release that the flag was created after Illinois became the nation's 21st state in 1818.
The 21-star flag lasted for one year, after which a 23-star flag was adopted to mark the admittance of Alabama and Maine to the Union.Â
Additional information is available on the museum's website. Â
