URBANA, Ill. (WAND) — A new accessible after school program is coming to Urbana this upcoming school year.
CU Special Recreation announced the new program for the upcoming 2026-27 school year. It will be at Phillips Recreation Center.
The program will offer adapted, skill-building activities for kids of all abilities, including games, sports, arts, crafts, cooking and socializing.
CU Special Recreation said the program was developed to close a gap in options for accessible after school childcare in the Champaign-Urbana area. It offers a special resident rate and scholarship opportunities for residents, and students from surrounding communities are also welcome to utilize the program.
"Caregivers want peace of mind when finding an after school program for their youth," CU Special Recreation Manager Christina Mott said. "We are happy we can offer an additional space where parents know their children will be safe and have their needs met."
Registration for August through December is now open. Registration can be done online here or over the phone at 217-819-3980.
