Gary Jordan mugshot

Mugshot of 58-year-old Gary Jordan, who police said robbed the Menard's in Forsyth and fled from officers.

FORSYTH, Ill. (WAND) — A man is behind bars after stealing from the Menard's in Forsyth and running from police Tuesday.

According to the Macon County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the Menard's just before 2 p.m. for reports of a person inside stealing from the store.

Menard's gave officers the suspect's name, later identified as 58-year-old Gary Jordan. Police said Jordan was known to the sheriff's office as a repeat offender and the suspect in multiple other thefts from the store.

MCSO said a deputy drove to the back gate area of the store when he arrived, where he saw Jordan in his truck at the guard gate.

Police said when Jordan saw the deputy, Jordan drove his truck through a wooden gate, nearly hitting the deputy's squad car, and drove away.

Police chased Jordan north into the Decatur area. Jordan eventually drove onto ADM property off Brush College Road, where he got out of his truck and ran.

Jordan was later found and arrested on several charges, including retail theft over $300, aggravated assault, aggravated fleeing and eluding, and criminal damage to property.

Jordan is currently being held in the Macon County Jail with an arraignment hearing scheduled for Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.
