SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - The Springfield City Council voted Tuesday night to advance an ordinance that would donate the city's vacant "Y Block" to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

IDNR would take the space and transform it into an amphitheater and green space.

The lot is between 4th Street, 5th Street, Capitol Avenue and Jackson Street, which is where the Levitt AMP music series takes place every summer.

IDNR said the focus will be on using native trees, plants and stones.

The ordinance must appear before council again next week for a final vote.
