CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — School is just around the corner, and kids in Champaign are heading back prepared.
The Sugar Foundation hosted a free shoe giveaway Sunday afternoon at Douglass Park, drawing a large crowd of community residents.
The event offered food, drinks, music and a talent show — giving families more than just a shoe giveaway.
Local organizations set up tents and booths, using the event as an opportunity to connect with kids and families about their programs.
Organizer Marlow Coleman said the day was all about making sure the kids had a great time.
"They play around and we have bouncy houses set up," Coleman said. "They love it out here."
