DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – The dog days of summer are seeping into September. A heat advisory that started Monday afternoon will run into Thursday evening.
Temperatures Monday morning quickly reached the 80s and by afternoon were in the 90s across much of central Illinois.
In Decatur’s Central Park, people sat under trees and the shadows of the Transfer House trying to catch a breeze.
“It’s been nice,” Travis Stewart told WAND News. “Really hot, but it’s been nice.”
Several cooling stations throughout the area are open. Stewart said he was heading over to the Decatur Civic Center. Another individual told WAND News he was headed over to the bus terminal, which is also air-conditioned.
