LEXINGTON, Ill. (WAND) — One man is in the hospital in stable condition after being shot by Illinois State Police officers during an attempted arrest at a gas station.
According to ISP, the agency was alerted to a vehicle that was believed to have been involved in an armed robbery in Texas. The car was traveling on Interstate 74 in Champaign County around 9:30 Thursday morning.
The car stopped at a gas station in McLean County about an hour later, and one man got out and entered the gas station. Officers arrived at this time and tried to take the driver, 18-year-old Ryan Aeron Stanley Hurst from Arkansas, into custody.
ISP said that Hurst pointed a gun in the direction of the officers during the arrest attempt, and officers shot Hurst. He was given first aid and transported to a hospital, where he is currently listed in stable condition, according to the agency.
The other man was not injured, and was taken into custody. No officers were injured.
Special agents of the Illinois State Police Division of Internal Investigation have taken over the investigation.
