MATTOON, Ill. (WAND) – Leaders say contamination in Lake Mattoon forced them to switch their water source.
The city has been using Lake Paradise since Sept. 25, when its Facebook post says a storm caused a contamination issue to start in Lake Mattoon. The situation caused a noticeable change in taste and order – problems Mattoon leaders say Lake Paradise is known for.
Lake Mattoon had been the water source for the city for the last several months. City leaders say it was providing water with good quality and taste.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources and Illinois Environmental Protection Agency are investigating where the contamination came from.
