MORTON, Ill. (WAND) — Josh Ames Career Makers STEM Course has been shaping the lives of students for years at Morton Jr. High School.
“I actually have all of the kids in the building at one time through the year and so they’re exploring different careers and all of the careers that we have in the class are STEM-related or have some aspect of STEM,” said Ames.
Students can get a head-start on their career options to see what they like and what they don't like. But the course helps them learn that in whatever career they choose, STEM will still play a role.
“One of the careers I might choose later in life might be to create movies and be like a movie director or to be an actor which would be really, really, really fun and with that knowledge I could basically get like a jumpstart on it,” said 7th grader, Trevor Estes.
Seventh grader Rylee Hernan likes the class because it makes her think deeper about the world, and everything she can achieve.
"It made me think of how I can innovate my surroundings and make sure that the commands I’m giving are clear enough to something that doesn’t quite understand,” explained Hernan.
The course will continue touching lives of students at Morton Jr. High to better prepare them for the future.
