MONTICELLO, Ill. (WAND) —  Piatt County has taken possession of a mobile Emergency Command Center. It can be used in events like tornadoes, floods, hazmat and chemical spells.

Piatt County Emergency Management agency paid $40,000 for the vehicle which was being sold by Champaign County which is upgrading its equipment. Although a 2000 model, the command center only has 7,000 miles on it.
The new vehicle, dubbed MC-1, will include the following capabilities:Â
- Advanced communication systems
- Real-time monitoring capabilities
- High-speed internet connectivity
- Integrated video conferencing
Radio frequencies are being changed from Champaign to Piatt County. Otherwise, the command center is ready to go. The public will get a chance to view it at the fireworks in Monticello on July 3, 2024.
