URBANA, Ill. (WAND) — Inclement weather can bring icy road conditions. But the Champaign and Urbana Public Works offices are working to keep the roadways safe and clear.
"It's important for us to keep the roads as safe as possible and as open as possible. You know, not everyone has the ability to work from home or to take time off work and of course businesses need people to get there," said Kris Koester, Spokesperson for Champaign Public Works.
Workers were out early this morning laying down salt and plowing the roads. But they urge people who don't have to drive to stay off the roads to prevent incidents.
"I know there have been lots of reports of accidents already throughout the entire region, so we're being mindful that if you don't have to come out today by all means please stay home," said Vince Gustafson, Deputy Director of Operation for Urbana Public Works.
