Semi truck crashes into home

STEWARDSON, Ill. (WAND)- A Semi Truck veered off Route 32 and into a house late Monday.

Matt Durbin was at home in the house at the time of the crash.

“I was just getting ready to relax, get in the shower, and the next thing I heard was like a freight train coming through the house,” Durbin said. “I got the kids and got out of the house, looked, and there was a semi in my house. I was like ‘Holy crap!’”

The truck, which crashed through the house’s back porch, also knocked a detached garage off its foundation. The truck came to a stop near Durbin’s four-year-old son’s room.

“It actually hit his room and pushed his bed up against a door,” Durbin said. “We had to force open the door to get to him. He was pretty scared.”

Durbin said he’s grateful his children were not hurt during the crash. He said his landlord thought he was joking when he contacted him with news the house had been hit by a truck.

“There’s actually quite a bit of damage,” Durbin said. “We’ll just have to see what insurance says and construction workers say about it.”

Authorities said the driver, Joel Forlines out of Shelbyville, was treated for injuries.
