DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - A meal from pretty much any restaurant in your area is just a few clicks away through food delivery apps like DoorDash, Uber Eats and Grubhub.

One local restaurant owner says the commission fees are becoming too much.

"When I first started DoorDash, pickup orders made up 30% of my sales," Marcos Fuentes, the owner of Smack'n Tacos and Spread N Buns, told WAND News. "In the last two months, it increased to 70% of my sales."

DoorDash charges Fuentes 30% on orders made through their app, along with marketing fees weekly. He says this forces him to raise his online prices to offset the cost.

"People say, 'Go ahead and increase it to 30%, so if people want to order through DoorDash, essentially you're just making them pay their own commission fee,'" Fuentes said. "But I can't do that. I just can't keep increasing my prices to offset that 30%. It's not fair to me, but it's also not fair to the customer."

In response, he created his own Smack'n Tacos app in the hopes that people would make the switch, so they would not have to pay more for his food, and he would not have to continue paying commission fees to DoorDash.

"We have access to DoorDash drivers and Uber Eats drivers," Fuentes said. "I don't have to hire my own. I don't have to do any of that. You'll still get it in a timely manner."

Fuentes says Spread N Buns will also have its own online ordering app soon.
