MAHOMET, Ill. (WAND)-- Opening the door for students across Central Illinois as they get ready to head to college and enter the workforce. Mahomet Seymour High School is making it easy for students to find their interests through hands on experiences and talking to professionals who are successful within the STEM field.

Jennifer Wherley, the Mahomet Agriculture Instructor and Workplace Learning Coordinator, says, "We pride ourselves on the fact that we give students not only classroom experiences within the textbook but also world experiences."

Opening the kid's eyes to the endless possibilities that come with having a career in STEAM. The gym and field house were packed full of booths representing different colleges, organizations, and companies there with a shared goal of presenting opportunities to students while helping them find their interests.

"This is something that they can meet with people hands on at a young age and decide if that's a path they want to take maybe I want to when I get into high school take some classes that are engineering or maybe I should decide that's not really what I want to do and go in a different path."

Not only were students able to gain knowledge, but they also got hands on experiences with technology like drones and robots. The goal being to leave a lasting impression on students as they find their future path in the STEM field.

Maddix Stirrett, an ALAH Student says, "I'm looking for you know different college opportunities and a lot of these colleges have different jobs and internships and stuff that I can go through so I'm evaluation my choices."

Taking what they have learned to better their community in the future.

"20 years from now one of these jobs fairs is going to help me find a career and eventually I can give back to my community."

Overall, this event is the first step towards a bright future for students hoping to further their education in STEM.

Brayden Leech, an ALAH Student, says, "I think it really does help me a lot and help me decide what I want to do in the future and also for my friends I hope to see them succeed and I think this can really help them learn where they want to go and what they want to do and really just overall it's a great benefit to the community."

This is the 10th year that Mahomet Seymour has hosted the STEM Fair, and they plan to continue hosting in the future to continue bringing opportunities to students.
