DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — Tax day is quickly approaching and here's what you need to know to get your taxes done in time.

According to Liberty Tax Office Manager Tricia Harmon, if you're missing some documents, it's still possible to get those needed documents.

If you go to the IRS website and create an account, you can get an unmasked transcript which will contain your Federal taxes on it.

It will not however, include your state taxes.

"Most people owe more money to federal in the end anyways, so they can at least get the federal taken care of," said Harmon.

If you can't get your paperwork in time, or would like to apply for an extension, it is possible. Tax filers need to fill out a Form 4868 document.

This does give them the opportunity to gain six months to complete their taxes.

However, this does not extend your time for paying what may be owed.

"If you owe, it does not give you an extension to pay. So you have to face penalties and late charges and interest that accrue over that time."

If you typically end up owing money, Harmon recommended taking more out of your check and putting it aside for taxes. This gives you a higher opportunity to get some type of tax-return back.

And for future reference, if you don't want to owe, take more out every check

"I always tell people to make sure that it's at least 10 percent of federal, that's my safe spot. But at least you don't owe big money at the end of the year," said Harmon.

Tax day is April 15th.
