CHAMPAIGN Ill. (WAND)- Students at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign share their thoughts on the TikTok ban.
For many students, they don't quite see the need for the ban.
"I think its kind of ridiculous that they're spending their time banning it because of, you know, issues with china and whatever. I think it's kind of ridiculous…"We have so many other problems than like trying to, I mean, because, its all about like other things stealing your data, and its like everything is stealing our data. Meta steals our data," said Frances Ivy-Barrett, a history major student.
But Christ King, another U of I student believes the ban is because of a censorship issue.
"I get it because a lot of people are at a state of panic because there's always bad news being posted on there. But other than that, I feel like everyone needs to know the truth because without truth, than we're just living in a world of lies," said King.
One student says -- he got off the app before the ban was suggested.
"Not that it was like, invading my life or making my life worse in anyway. Personally, I just needed to devote more time and attention and focus, you know, towards my work and towards schooling and all of that," said Evan Johnson, a graduate student who is studying biochemistry.
But still, Johnson believes government leader's energy should be used elsewhere.
"I think it's kind of dumb. I feel that there are bigger issues in America that the government should focus on, as opposed to trying to ban something that brings joy to, you know, a good number of people," said Johnson.
Regardless of how students may feel, the ban takes effect on Sunday.
