(WAND)- University of Illinois Chancellor Robert Jones will not retire at the end of the academic year. Instead, he has been selected as the 34th president of the University of Washington. Â
Jones is in the final semester of a nine-year tenure at the U of I. Â Â
In November of this past year, Chancellor Jones announced his plan to retire after a career of almost 50 years in higher education. Â
He will now be the first African American to hold this position at the University of Washington.
