(WAND) - Wet weather will melt away snow and ice across central Illinois.
While highs in the 40s and low-50s this week helped to reduce our snow cover, rain arriving today will speed up the process.
Â
A few showers are possible later this morning with rain and fog likely this afternoon into early Friday.
Â
Rainfall amounts around one-half to one inch are possible with even a few rumbles of thunder.
Â
This rain event falling on the frozen ground could cause some flooding.
Â
The weekend is expected to be dry with highs in the 40s Saturday and well into the 50s Sunday.
Â
Colder weather returns by the middle of next week and a wintry mix is possible.
