Israeli police have found about 70 Palestinian men hiding in a garbage truck as they attempted to cross into Israel, apparently in search of work. The men were discovered late Monday at a West Bank checkpoint. Video footage shows them being pulled from the truck’s waste compartment. Israeli authorities say the men were trying to infiltrate central Israel. Police described the men as “illegal entrants,” a term that usually refers to Palestinians who sneak into Israel looking for work. Israel revoked tens of thousands of Palestinian work permits since Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, attack. Desperate for jobs, some Palestinians have been resorting to smuggling themselves into Israel for work at great personal risk.
