Authorities in Missouri say two sheriff’s deputies were fatally shot, one during a traffic stop and the other hours later during a shootout with the suspect who was also killed. News outlets report that Christian County Sheriff Brad Cole said the initial shooting happened during a traffic stop south of Highlandville on Monday in southwest Missouri. Cole says the suspected shooter’s truck was found abandoned and officers searched the area and when deputies moved in, Cole says the suspect opened fire, hitting three deputies. Cole says one Christian County deputy was killed and two other deputies, from Christian and Webster counties, were wounded. He says law enforcement officers shot back, killing the suspect.
