DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — The Decatur Bean Ballers are already a third of the way through their inaugural season, bringing the sounds of summer to the city.
"We're all working towards a common goal, and that goal is winning," junior Carder Reich, a Millikin player from Newton, Illinois, said.
The Bean Ballers, like every team in the Prospect League that includes the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes and the Danville Dans, are made up of college players that just want to play more baseball.
"My dream is baseball. I just want to play baseball as long as I can and this is right here at my home field, I play for Millikin, and this is perfect," junior Millikin player Gage Reynolds said.
The team is made up of a lot of players from Illinois, mixed in with others from all kinds of backgrounds.
"I'm originally from the Dominican Republic. I was born and raised there, and now I get to meet people from Illinois, Arkansas, Missouri, just great people from all around," said sophomore catcher Oneill Feliz. "It's been a great experience for sure."
All the players want is for residents to come out and support the team.
"It's a great group of guys. Come here and you're going to have a lot of fun. You can experience new things, maybe I'll throw you a ball," junior infielder Moises Fibrillet said.
