URBANA, Ill. (WAND) - The Illini men's golf team shot a combined 5-under par on Wednesday to end the NCAA Urbana Regional with a score of -15. They finish even with Oklahoma State, claiming the program's seventh NCAA Regional title and punched their ticket to the 2025 NCAA Championship at Omni La Costa.
The team was led by Ryan Voois who finished his final round -4, thanks to an eagle on the par 5 15th hole. Voois posted back-to-back outings at 4-under par to finish the tournament -9, tying him for 2nd place.
Not far behind, Jackson Buchanan ended his last day even par, hindered by bogeys on the 16th and 17th holes. Still, his overall tournament performance of -6 was good enough to slate him in a tie for 5th place.
After closing the first two rounds of the tournament even par, Max Herendeen found his rhythm with a -4 performance to move him up the leaderboard to finish the tournament tied for 11th. Three birdies on the front and back nine positioned him and his team for a chance to keep their postseason hopes alive.
Illinois will be among the 30 teams competing for a national championship in California May 23-28.
The top five teams from each NCAA regional advance to compete. Other qualifiers from the Urbana regional include Oklahoma State, UNLV, Troy, and Texas Tech.
