WARRENSBURG, Ill. (WAND) - Standout student-athletes Brenna Dutcher and Lorenzo Wright Jr. signed their national letters of intent Friday afternoon, setting them up their careers after graduating Warrensburg-Latham High School.
Dutcher is a four sport athlete for the Cardinals, but has become a proven thrower in track & field. It's led her to receive a scholarship to continue competing with the University of Alabama-Birmingham. In her first three seasons of throwing, she's placed third and second in state. Dutcher also played basketball and volleyball, while kicking serving as a place kicker for the Cardinal's football team.
"It feels good that the community support has always been there," Dutcher said. "I just have always relied on other people, knowing they've always been there for me no matter what."
Wright signed on to keep competing on the gridiron, taking his talents to Aurora University. He helped bring Warrensburg-Latham back to the IHSA postseason for the first time in six seasons. The running back and safety said he felt Aurora had wanted him from day one, and their coaching staff brings a lot of experience to the table.
"Coach (Matt) Piasecki was the first coach to ever reach out to me and ask for my film," Wright said. "Their head coach, Don Beebe, he was in the NFL, won a Super Bowl playing for the Packers. I just thought that would be a great way to come and learn from a great football player."
